It’s almost here: The second film in the Star Wars anthology, Solo: A Star Wars Story, is set to be releases in theaters on May 25, 2018. It follows the 2016 Star Wars origin story, Rogue One.
This film tells the story of a young Han Solo prior to the events of the 1977 original Star Wars. It will tell the story of the adventures of a young Han Solo and his future Millennium Falcon copilot Chewbacca through a series of daring escapades and encounters with outlaws and scoundrels including the notorious gambler, Lando Calrissian, played by Billy D. Williams in the original trilogy. The film stars the relatively unknown Alden Ehrenreich as Solo, alongside Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke and Donald Glover as Lando.
Oscar-winning director Ron Howard was asked to came in late in the firm’s production after Lucasfilm execs reluctantly decided the original co-directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, weren’t producing the kind of film they had hoped. His brother, Clint Howard also appears in the movie.
Some audiences who grew up with the original trilogy may be a bit unsettled to see the younger versions of iconic characters like Solo and Lando by actors not named Harrison Ford and Billy D. Williams, but younger fans may not mind as much. You can bet opinions will be passionate and plentiful when Solo: A Star Wars Story opens in the U.S. over Memorial Day weekend.
